The Fed's primary goal is to get monetary policy right, or as close to it as possible, he said during a congressional hearing.

And if we design monetary policy correctly, which we will do, the inflationary developments we have seen over the past five years will be a thing of the past.

On Tuesday, figures were released showing that inflation in the US, according to the CPI measure - which also includes food and energy prices - amounted to 3.5 percent in June.

Warsh also said the US economy is generally doing well and pointed to new investments.

The rapid pace - which appears to be accelerating - largely reflects the construction of data centres and the huge demand for AI-related equipment and software that fills them, he said, according to CNBC.
