From October 12, individuals who are citizens of countries outside the EU and Schengen must provide fingerprints and facial photos in connection with shorter trips to and from the Schengen area.
The new border control system, Entry Exit System, is being introduced in Sweden and also in other Schengen countries to strengthen internal security in Europe, according to the police.
Children under 12 years do not need to provide fingerprints, but their personal data must be registered. Citizens of other countries who have residence permits or right of residence in Sweden are not affected.
The controls will be carried out by border police personnel at all airports and ports in Sweden with connections to countries outside the Schengen area.
