The Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy wanted to continue in Manchester United's coaching staff even under the new coach Rúben Amorim, but that will not happen, according to the Premier League club on its website.
"Ruud is, and will always be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contributions and the way he took on his role throughout his time at the club. He is always welcome at Old Trafford", the club writes.
The former Manchester United star van Nistelrooy returned to the club last summer and temporarily took over as coach after Erik ten Hag was fired at the end of October.
The Dutchman, who was an assistant coach under ten Hag, was in charge of the team for four matches. The Portuguese Rúben Amorim was brought in from Sporting Lisbon and took up his new job on Monday.
