Protests against President Rodrigo Paz have been held repeatedly during the spring, including the storming of government buildings.
On Wednesday, clashes erupted as thousands of people marched through the administrative capital, La Paz. Riot police used tear gas against demonstrators who, among other things, set fire to piles of garbage and threw stones.
President Rodrigo Paz took office in November, promising to solve the country's worst economic crisis in decades. But he has failed to meet citizens' demands for wage increases, economic stability, and a halt to privatization.
Recently, the country's Congress approved a new law allowing the military to be deployed against the protests.
