In principle, each episode of the TV series, whose third season premieres on 20/2 on Prime Video, contains a brutal fight.
It's tough, at the same time it's part of the job, states Alan Ritchson.
"Reacher" is based on Lee Child's best-selling series about Jack Reacher, a mysterious man who on his journey through the USA constantly gets into conflict with various types of villains. He was previously employed in the army, is very good at handling weapons and not least at fighting.
"Deprives the audience"
Ritchson says that he avoids using a stuntman as much as possible. Harrison Ford once called action scenes "physical acting".
I agree 100 percent. Not doing the action scenes myself would mean that I deprive the audience of something they want to see. Then I wouldn't be doing my job. You have to do it yourself, it's extremely important, says Alan Ritchson.
When he auditioned for the role of Reacher, he had never read any of the books or seen the two films with Tom Cruise in the role.
The audition process took eight months. As soon as I got the role, I read all the books and became extremely fond of the character and the world he inhabits.
"A bit controversial"
Season three is based on the book that is called "Double Play" where Reacher collaborates with the authorities to get to a drug lord. It's the seventh of the many books.
I have a bit to say about which book will be filmed next. We're discussing it. I have a favorite, which is considered a bit controversial, and which I would like to see become a series. I'm not saying which one it is, but I think it's approaching.
Ritchson would like to continue for many years as Jack Reacher and says that he feels like one of the audience himself. But how does he manage to maintain his muscular body before each new season?
I do a lot of other things too, many films. Many of those roles also require a powerful body, but it never really becomes time for me to take a break. I gain or lose about seven-eight kilos. But for the role of Reacher, it's always about bulking up.
