New blow for US households - producer prices at highest level since 2022

Another sign of the increasingly strained situation for American households in the wake of the Middle East crisis is visible: producer prices rose by a full 6 percent in April compared with the same period last year.

This is the highest figure since December 2022 and compares with 4 percent in March.

The announcement also caused the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield to rise to 4.49 percent, the highest level since July last year. Ahead of the opening of the New York Stock Exchange, futures were also down, especially those tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
