This is the second time the United States has sold weapons to Taiwan since Donald Trump took office as president during his second term.
The deal includes the Himars rocket artillery system, drones and parts for other equipment. The weapons package also includes military software.
The U.S. State Department announced the sale on Wednesday, U.S. time, as President Donald Trump delivered a televised national address. He did not mention China or Taiwan during his remarks.
China is reacting strongly to the announcement and urging the US to immediately stop the "dangerous measures" to arm Taiwan, according to a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
