Flights bound for Vilnius were diverted, including to Helsinki, according to the airport's website . Shortly after 8 p.m., Swedish time, traffic was back on track.
This fall, the airport has been closed more than ten times after reports of balloons being sent across the border by cigarette smugglers. Lithuania claims that the balloons from Belarus are deliberately sent to disrupt Lithuanian airspace and thus constitute an attack on civil aviation.
On Friday, Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene declared a state of emergency in the country to overcome the balloon problem.
