Six people, including a child, are reported to have been killed in an artillery attack in Sudanese El Obeid, according to a doctor who spoke to AFP.
El Obeid, located southwest of Khartum, has been subjected to sustained bombardment by the paramilitary RSF (Rapid Support Forces) for eight days.
The militia group is trying to retake territories recently lost to the army. El Obeid was retaken by the military last month, after a two-year siege by RSF. The city is a key hub between the capital Khartum and the Darfur region to the west.
RSF has been at war with the country's army since April 2023. Tens of thousands of people have been killed and more than twelve million have been forced to flee.
