The triumph was the first for new head coach José Riveiro.
New signing from Örgryte, Amel Mujanic, gave AIK the lead at the end of the first half. The half was choppy, with three interruptions in the first 20 minutes after AIK's supporters lit pyrotechnics and the pitch filled with smoke.
In the second half, AIK increased their lead to 2–0, first through the super talent Kevin Filling, who scored after a defensive error by the home team. Then, in stoppage time, Bersant Celina made the final score 3–0.
AIK lost the first group stage match against Västerås (0–2) and will have difficulty advancing to the playoffs.
