Netted again – but no title for Gyökeres

Viktor Gyökeres scored two penalties in the Portuguese league cup final against Benfica. It didn't help. Trincao became the scapegoat for Sporting when the final was decided in a penalty shootout.

Both teams scored their six initial penalties and when Florentino sent in Benfica's seventh penalty, Trincao was forced to score his. He didn't, and Sporting and Gyökeres missed out on the season's first, heavy title.

Andreas Schjelderup gave Benfica the lead after nearly half an hour, but just before the break, Sporting got the chance to equalize when Maximiliano Araujo was fouled in the penalty area.

Swedish national team striker Viktor Gyökeres stepped forward and distinctly scored his 32nd goal of the season.

No more goals were scored during the regular 90 minutes – and the final went straight to a decisive penalty shootout.

Gyökeres was the first penalty shooter for Sporting and scored, equalizing to 1–1 in the penalty shootout.

One by one, the penalty shooters in both teams scored the balls before Trincao missed his penalty.
