Netherlands Seeks to Seize Drug Baron Jos Leijdekkers' Billions

The Netherlands wants to confiscate 221 million euros, approximately 2.4 billion kronor, from the 33-year-old drug baron Jos Leijdekkers.

According to the Dutch prosecution authority, Leijdekkers has amassed a fortune through cocaine trafficking and the purchase of gold and luxury products. In under a year, he is said to have earned as much as 114 million euros, equivalent to 1.2 billion, from cocaine trafficking.

Last year, Leijdekkers, also known as "fat Jos", was convicted in absentia to 24 years in prison for instigation to murder and cocaine trafficking in Rotterdam.

The Dutch national is on Europol's "most wanted" list with a reward of 200,000 euros for anyone who can provide information leading to his arrest.

Currently, Leijdekkers is believed to be hiding in Sierra Leone, where he has established strong ties to the country's leadership. According to opposition leader Mohamed Mansaray, who is in exile, Leijdekkers is together with President Julius Maada Bio's daughter.
