An interim report after the stock market closed on Thursday - with profits in line with expectations - was dampened by a forecast of lower revenue in the third quarter of this year.
The drop in Netflix's share price coincides with a wave of tech mania sweeping stock markets around the world. The Tokyo Stock Exchange fell 4 percent in choppy trading, while tech-heavy exchanges in Seoul and Taipei plunged more than 6 percent. The Nasdaq Stock Exchange in New York is down more than 2 percent in futures trading ahead of Friday's opening.
Concerns about overvaluations have been confirmed in the first quarterly reports and will continue, a stock trading manager told Bloomberg.
