Netflix Debuts Amanda Romare's Series "Half of Malmö" Worldwide

With hope of helping the world's dumped, Amanda Romare has written a Netflix manuscript of her own history. I hope that some Americans will sit and feel that "I am not alone". Just like many Swedes have done, she says.

The TV series based on Amanda Romare's novel "Half of Malmö consists of guys who dumped me" premieres worldwide on Netflix on September 11. The book has previously been published in, among other places, the Nordic countries.

Now the book has been sold in Spain and the Netherlands. And many are also contacting us from the USA and wondering if the book is available in English. So I think the interest is great, says Amanda Romare a few days before the premiere.

Humiliation

She is excited about how her story about a 30-plus girl who dates increasingly hopeless guys will be received.

It's such a personal story. It's one's little baby that will now spread globally.

Because it was her own story, she has been involved in writing the script for the TV series, together with her sister Adina.

The humiliation one suffers because one longs for closeness when one is dating, is single and is 30, I felt was so important to translate from the book to the series.

The character Amanda is played in the series by Carla Sehn, known from TV series such as "Important People" and "Murders". She appreciated that Amanda Romare was involved in the process, but did not want to get too close.

If you know someone, you want to make a nice picture of the person. And remove the "sharp edges" where it may be most interesting. So I didn't want to risk being too nice to Amanda, she explains.

For Amanda Romare, it was almost healing to see Carla Sehn portray her.

I have a lot of self-hatred. And to be able to see Carla portray someone I think is a pretty nice person... It has helped me to heal after the book. Like nothing else has, she says and smiles.

Sequel

The novel was published in 2021. The Netflix series can open up for a sequel to come soon. Either first as a book - or directly as a TV series. Amanda Romare describes herself as "very keen" on a sequel and Carla Sehn is happy to play the role again.

Yes, really, it has been a fantastically fun project.

Amanda Romare, who is no longer single, says she has plenty of material to draw from her life.

There is a lot. When you've been single for twelve years, you've had such high expectations of a relationship. And when it doesn't quite go as you might think, it's a very overwhelming process.
