Poland has committed to following the International Criminal Court's (ICC) arrest warrant, and would therefore need to arrest Netanyahu if he comes there. However, the country's government is now announcing that it will "ensure free and safe access to and participation in these memorial ceremonies for the highest representatives from Israel".
Poland has information that Israel's education minister will attend.
Regardless of whether it's the prime minister, the president or the education minister... whoever comes to Oswiecim, to the ceremony in Auschwitz, will be guaranteed security and will not be arrested, says Poland's prime minister Donald Tusk.
In November, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and the former defense minister Yoav Gallant, as they are accused of crimes against humanity and war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
Israel denies the allegations and has called the court's decision anti-Semitic.
The ICC also issued an arrest warrant against the militarily designated Hamas military chief Mohammed Dayf.
In the extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, approximately 1.1 million people were murdered by the German Nazi regime, the largest death camp during the Holocaust.
The memorial ceremony will be held at the end of January.
