Netanyahu's lawyer writes in his application to the court that the prime minister is "forced to devote all his time and energy to handling national, diplomatic and security-related issues" and refers to the conflict with Iran and the ongoing war in Gaza.
The lawsuit against the prime minister has been going on for several years and he is accused of fraud, bribery and disloyalty to the principal.
US President Donald Trump takes the side of his Israeli colleague. During the night until Thursday, he wrote a long post on his platform Truth Social:
"The trial against Bibi Netanyahu should BE IMMEDIATELY STOPPED, or a great hero who has done so much for the state should be pardoned", Trump wrote, meaning that the prosecution is a "witch hunt" and a "politically motivated case".
In a post on X on Thursday, Netanyahu quotes Trump's post and takes the opportunity to thank the president.
"Thank you President Trump for your touching support for me and for your enormous support for Israel and the Jewish people", Netanyahu writes.
Earlier this month, cross-examinations with Netanyahu began and are expected to resume after a temporary closure of the court due to the war with Iran.
