"Iran targeted one of my sons. Iran tried to kill one of my sons," Netanyahu said in an interview with Israeli television channel Nu 14.
The remark came during a conversation about former commander Gadi Eisenkot, whose bodyguards the Shin Bet intelligence service has denied.
Eisenkot is seen as one of the main contenders for prime minister in this fall's elections, and Netanyahu has said he supports Eisenkot receiving protection - without it, Iran will succeed, he says.
It is unclear which of Netanyahu's two sons would have been Iran's target, but one of them has lived in the United States for periods since 2024, which has sparked debate about the high cost of providing him with protection.
