Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has nominated Eyal Zamir to lead the country's military IDF. The retired General Zamir is to replace Herzi Halevi, who resigned in January, if the nomination is approved.
Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz also supports the 59-year-old Zamir, who has previously been close to being appointed as army chief but then had to step aside for Halevi.
Herzi Halevi is leaving the post as he takes responsibility for the terrorist-designated Hamas and other militant Islamic groups being able to attack Israel on October 7, 2023. He took office in January 2023.
