Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar, younger brother of the previously killed leader Yahya Sinwar, has been killed. This is confirmed by Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

We have eliminated Mohammed Sinwar, says Netanyahu to the Israeli parliament, reports AFP.

On May 18, it was reported that Sinwar's remains had been found in a tunnel under the Gaza Strip, along with ten other dead, described as Sinwar's collaborators.

Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz said then that there was no official confirmation, but that "all indications" pointed to Sinwar being dead.

Mohammed Sinwar, younger brother of the long-time Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, who was killed by Israel, was supposed to have been the target of Israeli attacks on Khan Yunis in southern Gaza on May 13, reports Times of Israel. He is believed to have taken over as military leader after his brother's death in Rafah in October 2024.

According to terrorism expert Magnus Ranstorp, Mohammed Sinwar was one of five people who knew about and planned Hamas' large-scale attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
