Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to Donald Trump's so-called peace council, Trump claims. Sweden is currently saying no, according to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M).

Donald Trump has said that he wants the council's charter to be signed during the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos.

Around 60 invitations have been sent out, including to the Pope. But it is still unclear which world powers have accepted.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is among those who said yes, and according to Trump, Vladimir Putin has also done so.

"He has said yes. Many have said yes," says Trump in Davos.

But uncertainty is high, as Russia has not communicated the decision, and state-controlled TASS only reports that Putin has thanked the US for the invitation and ordered the State Department to review the proposal. In addition, Trump followed up his statement by saying:

"I don't know anyone who hasn't said yes."

But at least Sweden, France and Norway have declined the invitation.

Denmark is among the countries that have not received a request, says Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.

"Denmark has not been invited to the American initiative, which, to be diplomatic, does not fully focus on what was intended - securing a peace agreement (in Gaza) with long-term stability," he tells Ritzau.

Many invitees are hesitant, including China, which via its foreign ministry has announced that it supports the global order based on the UN Charter. Germany has not given a definitive answer, but Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul tells German media that "We already have a peace council, and that is the UN."

The council was originally designed to monitor the ceasefire in the Gaza war, but the US is now describing it as a broader, UN-like body. Trump intends to have veto power.

As far as is known, around 60 countries around the world have been invited to the new global "peace council" that the US president wants to lead.

Much is still unclear, but this is how some invited world powers have reacted:

Yes: According to the AP, 20 countries, including Argentina, Belarus, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Qatar, Hungary, Turkey and Vietnam.

Possibly: Russia. No official announcement has been made, but according to Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin has accepted.

Maybe: Germany and the Vatican, among others, have said they will study the proposals. According to Italian media, Italian Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti sees a yes vote as "problematic," and membership is also said to be against the country's constitution.

No: France, Norway, Slovenia and Sweden.

No clear answer: Among others, the EU, India, Japan, Canada, China and the UK.
