The U.S. president has announced that he wants the council's charter to be signed in connection with the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Thursday.
Some 60 invitations have been sent out, but it is not entirely clear whether they were sent to heads of state personally or to countries. Netanyahu, as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has also been invited, are wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes in Gaza and Ukraine, respectively.
The council was originally designed to monitor the ceasefire in the Gaza war, but the U.S. is now describing it as a broader, U.N.-like body. It is intended to be led by Trump, who will have veto power over all decisions.
