Neil Young has long tried to stop Donald Trump from playing "Rockin' in the Free World" at his rallies and sued the president in 2020. At the time, Trump's campaign staff promised not to play the song again.

Despite that, "Rockin' in the Free World" is being played at campaign rallies ahead of the midterm elections in November. Neil Young is now suing Trump's campaign for copyright infringement, The Wrap reports. The rock icon is seeking, among other things, $10 million in compensation.

In the lawsuit, Neil Young's lawyers argue that he does not want to be associated with Trump and that the song's lyrics are not an uncritical celebration of America, but instead describe "the reality that the poor, homeless and forgotten in society are forced to endure" in today's United States.
