In the song "Big crime" Neil Young claims that major crimes are being committed in Washington - in the White House. It is an ironic nod to the fact that Trump recently sent the National Guard to what he said were "crime-ridden" democratically controlled cities, including Washington, despite the fact that crime in those cities was on the decline.
"We don't need fascist rules", "We don't want soldiers on the streets", Neil Young sings, among other things, in the song - where he also adds "we must throw out the fascists / We must clean out the White House".
Neil Young, who became a US citizen in 2020, has called Trump "the worst president our great country has ever had". Earlier this spring, the artist also lashed out at the president, after the latter criticized Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift. Young wrote on social media: "Bruce and thousands of musicians think you're ruining the US".
The song has been published on Young's social media.
