Explosion Linked to Fatal Accident During Police Exercise in Borensberg

The accident during an exercise for police employees in Borensberg on Thursday is being investigated as causing another person's death, according to the prosecutor.

A man died in the accident. The incident is being investigated by the Special Prosecution Chamber, which investigates crimes related to, among other things, police officers.

The crime classification is causing another person's death, announces prosecutor Joakim Zander, who is the preliminary investigation leader. No one is currently reasonably suspected of a crime. Apart from that, he cannot tell more about what happened, he says.

The investigation has just begun.

The death occurred in connection with the police practicing at the Swedish Armed Forces' facility for urban warfare. It is not a gunshot wound, according to local media. According to information to Motala and Vadstena Tidning it was something that exploded that led to the fatal accident.

Police employees from several regions participated in the exercise, along with a number of volunteers. The deceased was not employed by the police authority, but participated in the exercise as a kind of extra.
