The plane crashed shortly after taking off from a military airbase, according to the government army in Sudan. It fell down in a residential area in the Karrari district. The cause of the crash is not known.

Witnesses describe how they heard a loud bang. The plane crash also caused power outages in nearby areas.

The area west of Omdurman is controlled by the RSF militia, which has been at war with the government army in the country since April 2023.

Since April last year, the war has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced over 12 million people.

The UN estimates that around 24 million people in Sudan are dependent on external food aid.
