Negotiations between unions and employers broke down overnight Sunday. The dispute is not only about wages, but also about conditions for sick pay.

Hotel and restaurant workers have some of the lowest salaries in the country, but they face the same food and rent costs as everyone else. Without a real wage increase, we see no other option than to strike, says Dag-Einar Sivertsen, head of negotiations for the trade union Fellesforbundet.

The strike begins at noon on Sunday, but as early as Thursday it could escalate to include another 1,000 people.
