The power of AI could be radically enhanced in the coming decade, something policymakers must now act quickly to address. The warning comes from nearly 200 researchers in economics and politics, including Nobel laureates Daron Acemoglu and Simon Johnson, in a call titled “We Must Act Now,” reports the New York Times.
AI technology poses risks that include both job displacement and job losses, the researchers say.
For years, tech industry leaders have warned that AI, at its current pace, could quickly take over human work and lead to widespread unemployment, according to the petition, which was also signed by Jack Clark, co-founder of the AI lab Anthropic.
