A total of 1,374 potential victims were identified and 219 suspects arrested during an international operation against human trafficking in early June, the police announced in a press release.
The purpose of the operation was to detect and identify human trafficking for sexual purposes, begging, and forced criminal activity.
Sweden was one of the countries participating in the operation, which was carried out within the framework of Empact, a European cooperation against organised and serious international crime.
Several controls were carried out in Sweden, which is both a destination country for human trafficking and a transit country for human trafficking victims to other Nordic countries.
The Swedish controls led to the discovery of seven people who were potential victims of human trafficking and the identification of one suspected perpetrator. Furthermore, a total of approximately 245 000 kronor was seized.
