The Election Review Board has received thousands of new emails in recent days, which has led to the number of appeals doubling in just a few days. The latest figure, on Friday morning, was 11,700 appeals.
The Election Review Board has previously stated that many of the appeals received concern the suspected election fraud in Borlänge, where Mohamed Abdukardir Ali received 648 personal votes and won Dalarna's only parliamentary seat for V.
Mohamed Abdukardir Ali, who denies any wrongdoing, has taken time off in consultation with the party due to the investigation. In an email to the Speaker, he says that he will not attend the call to parliament on Monday and that he wants to be on leave.
"It would feel better if I could officially be on leave while waiting for word from the police and other agencies so that I can begin my work when the case is officially closed," he writes.
According to the administration, he needs to formally apply via a special form.
Six ongoing cases
The National Unit Against Corruption, at the Swedish Prosecution Authority, says that there are currently six ongoing cases with the criminal category of "improper influence during voting".
As of Friday, a total of 60 police reports with the same crime category had been received.
A majority of the reports concern ballots that were stolen, hidden or missing from polling stations for other reasons, says Fredrik Bratt, who is deputy chief of staff in the police's national election staff.
Many closed
In many cases, nothing criminal has occurred.
"Everyone is free to file a police report. But at the moment I would say that in probably just over half of the cases it has been determined that no crime has occurred or that they have been closed for other reasons," he says.
In addition to crimes related to the voting itself, the police receive numerous reports of vandalism to election posters, for example, during each election. However, in general, it seems to have been a relatively calm election campaign this time, according to Fredrik Bratt.
We have been following the election-related cases since January 1. Overall, there are fewer crimes in 2026 than there were in 2022, he says.
