Over 80 people are missing after the latest accident, last Sunday, when a boat with around 120 migrants on board capsized after setting sail from Tajoura in northwestern Libya.

In a previous accident, on April 1, 19 people were found dead aboard a boat off the Italian island of Lampedusa.

"After three days at sea, the boat drifted from wind to wave following engine failure and shortages of fuel and food in difficult weather conditions," the IOM wrote.

So far this year, at least 990 people have died in accidents in the Mediterranean, according to the IOM, which notes that these are among the deadliest first months since 2014, when it began compiling the figures.
