NBA star Terry Rozier – teammate with Swede Pelle Larsson in Miami Heat – has been arrested suspected of involvement in a game-fixing scandal, American authorities announced on Thursday. Also, Portland's head coach Chauncey Billups has been arrested, but for involvement in another case.

In total, over 30 people have been arrested in separate – but related – cases of illegal gaming, according to the FBI.

One of the most brazen corruption cases in sports since internet-based betting became legal in large parts of the USA, says prosecutor Joseph Nocella Jr at a press conference.

Terry Rozier is accused of having participated in an illegal gaming scheme where private insider information from the NBA was used. He is alleged to have informed people in his vicinity that he planned to leave a match prematurely due to an injury, according to Jessica Tisch, police chief in New York.

When the NBA season begins, his career is already over. Not due to injury, but due to integrity, she says, according to BBC.

Rozier's lawyer Jim Trusty has previously said to ESPN that the basketball player has met with the basketball league NBA and representatives of the FBI on several occasions during 2023. The NBA is then said to have stated that no violations of the league's rules had occurred.

In total, seven matches between February 2023 and March 2024 are said to be part of the scheme.

Portland's head coach Chauncey Billups has been arrested for having helped to manipulate illegal poker games, where unaware players were lured into games with promises of playing against celebrities, according to American authorities.

The unaware players are alleged to have lost over seven million dollars – equivalent to approximately 65 million kronor, writes BBC.
