The North American basketball league NBA has suspended Milwaukee's forward Bobby Portis for 25 matches. This since the 30-year-old tested positive for the pain-relieving opioid medication tramadol, which is on NBA's list of prohibited substances.
The player's agent Mark Bartelstein says to ESPN that Portis took tramadol by mistake, believing it was toradol. Even toradol is a pain-relieving medication, but is allowed by NBA and something that Portis is said to have taken previously.
Portis, who became NBA champion with Milwaukee in 2020-21, will not receive payment during the time he is suspended. The next match he can play will be on April 8, which is Milwaukee's 79th match out of 82 in the regular season.
