Among other things, Maya Angelou's famous autobiography "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" has been removed.
This was done on the orders of Defense Minister Pete Hegseth's office, which instructed the school to get rid of books whose content revolves around diversity, justice, and inclusion.
Among the books being cleared out of the college library are also those that deal with gender identity, poetry collections by African American female poets, and fact books about the Ku Klux Klan and Black Lives Matter.
In a statement, the US Navy says that officials have gone through the college library catalog and, via keyword searches, identified 900 books that they reviewed, before removing nearly 400 of them from the library.
The books were cleared out just before the school received a visit from Pete Hegseth, a visit that had been planned for months. According to the US Department of Defense Pentagon, the US military colleges are "set to implement and execute President Trump's executive decisions".
