Studio head Neil Druckmann writes on the company's website that the studio "has a couple of very exciting new projects in the very early stages" that build on the canon established in the two existing games.
"The world of 'The Last of Us' means a lot to us, and we wouldn't return to it if we didn't have something meaningful to say. We believe these stories are worth telling," he continues.
Currently, Naughty Dog is working on "Intergalactic," a sci-fi game that Druckmann describes as the studio's most ambitious yet.
Post-apocalyptic "The Last of Us" takes place in the US, where zombie-like creatures are rampant, and has also become a television series.
