The drone was discovered shortly after midnight local time and shot down by NATO fighter jets over central Lithuania.
According to the country's crisis management authority, the drone was "most likely" carrying an explosive charge.
“Together with our NATO allies, Lithuania will defend its airspace,” writes Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda on X.
Ursula von der Leyen points to Russia as being behind it when she writes in her post about both incidents on X:
"Europe has once again been awakened by reckless and dangerous Russian actions. We are increasing the pressure on Russia."
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas believes that the union must tighten measures aimed at the Kremlin:
Including reviewing the issuance of tourist visas to Russians, to counter Moscow's hybrid attacks. We must reduce the number of people carrying out attacks on European soil, says Kallas.
