NATO chief says talks underway on how to open the Strait of Hormuz

"I have been in contact with many member states. Of course, we all agree that the Strait must be reopened," Rutte said at a press conference, adding:

"Member states are discussing how that can be achieved, what is the best way to do it."

A significant portion of the world's oil exports pass through the Strait of Hormuz; that traffic has been halted following attacks and threats from Iran in response to the Israel-US war.

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump launched an angry attack on allies and Western countries for not contributing forces to the Strait of Hormuz.
