The announcement comes after it emerged that 33 women had their uteruses unnecessarily removed at Akademiska Hospital in Uppsala in 2023 and 2024.

The national survey is being conducted to ensure uniform healthcare in Sweden, according to Minister of Health Acko Ankarberg Johansson (KD).

Now we need to see how it looks like across Sweden. What assessments are made there? How do they work with this issue? she says to the radio.

We hope to get uniformity in the assessments in Sweden, so that no more women receive the news that they have undergone an unnecessary operation, but that we are completely sure that the tests we take, the assessments we make of different precancerous stages, are safe, and that when I as a woman receive the news, I can rely on it.
