According to Pritzker, the Department of Defense issued an ultimatum: Send in your troops, or we will do it.
"It is outrageous and un-American to demand that a governor deploy military groups within our own borders and against our will," says Democrat Pritzker in a statement.
According to Pritzker, 300 soldiers from the National Guard will be sent to Illinois. It is unclear exactly where and when they will be deployed, but President Trump has previously threatened to send troops to the state's largest city, Chicago.
Trump has previously deployed the National Guard in, among other places, the capital Washington DC, Los Angeles, and Memphis, with the aim of combating crime and getting control over the number of undocumented migrants. The green light has also been given for efforts in Portland.
"For Donald Trump, it has never been about security. It's about control," says Pritzker.
