The Swedish National Audit Office has reviewed the work of identifying foreign nationals who may pose a threat to Sweden's security, how it is investigated and addressed. Although it is mainly working well, the authority points out areas where there are shortcomings.

For example, the Migration Board sometimes misses signs of security threats, which means there is a risk that people who may pose a threat are granted residence permits or citizenship.

Another serious shortcoming is that the Security Service does not systematically monitor the accuracy of its threat assessments.

The National Audit Office also highlights long processing times and deportation decisions that cannot be enforced.
