With just over six minutes left in the third period, the players squared off, and MacKinnon gave Clarke a lesson.
"He was talking shit on the ice and had cross-checked me in the back. Plus, I wasn't happy about the hit he made on Cale (Makar) earlier either," MacKinnon told TNT after the game.
Colorado dominated and scored four power-play goals. MacKinnon scored twice, while Artturi Lehkonen and Brock Nelson also scored twice apiece.
And Swedish veteran Gabriel Landeskog also contributed, with the 33-year-old scoring his first goal of the season to make it 7-4.
