HV71 player Oscar Stål Lyrenäs crashed into the sideline and was left lying on the ice. After several minutes of play was interrupted, he was then carried out on a stretcher.

There were nasty scenes that unfolded at the beginning of the second period in the SHL hockey match between HV71 and Skellefteå.

Home player Oscar Stål Lyrenäs lost his balance and went into the rim at high speed, whereupon he lay motionless on the ice. It took around five minutes before the 27-year-old was carried out on a stretcher while the HV fans in Jönköping chanted his name.

A little later, HV71 came with a status update on X:

"HV71's doctor Jonas Kalman announces that Oskar Stål Lyrenäs is awake and able to speak but has been taken to hospital for further examination."

HV71 ultimately won 4–3, three welcome points for the bottom team after a streak of four straight losses.

Of course it's nice, I think we're having a pretty good match today, says HV coach Anton Blomqvist to TV4.

About Stål Lyrenäs he says:

We'll see how it goes with him going forward, we hope it goes well.
