Melville Ives was left lying on the ground after a bad landing in the snow and was quickly attended to by medical personnel. While he was receiving treatment, television images showed other competitors holding each other and crying.
The 19-year-old's condition is "stable and positive," the New Zealand Olympic Committee said later on Friday.
"Fin is with his family and is being examined by medical personnel," the committee wrote on social media.
The accident occurred just hours after Cassie Sharpe of Canada was also taken away on a stretcher following a crash in the women's race.
