Sweden's biggest medal hope at the Olympics, Sandra Näslund, missed the podium in the final World Cup ski cross competition before the Games.

On Thursday, Näslund was disqualified after finishing with only one ski in the qualifying session for Friday's final.

When the chance for revenge came on Saturday in Val di Fassa, the World Cup leader finished fourth. The winner was German Daniela Maier, just like last World Cup weekend.

Näslund made it to the grand final after a second-place finish in her semifinal. She had the best start in the final and led for a long time but was then overtaken by the other skaters.

The Swede also received a warning after she came too close to Swiss Saskja Lack, but was allowed to keep fourth place.

Näslund has five victories and a third place this season.
