Quarterly reports from several major, AI-driven stock market giants in recent days have reignited market fears of a bubble.
Google owner Alphabet fell more than 10 percent after reporting on Thursday. Interim reports from Intel and Amazon after trading closed on Thursday also weighed heavily on the stock market.
A few minutes into trading on Friday, the Nasdaq was down 2.3 percent. Among the biggest losers was Intel, down 29 percent, while Amazon was down 3 percent.
Things were somewhat calmer outside the technology sector. The Dow Jones was down 0.3 percent.
