According to the AP news agency, landers, vehicles and drones have been ordered as part of the Artemis project.
The plan is to begin building the necessary infrastructure, including an electrical grid, starting in 2029. Sometime after 2030, NASA hopes the base will be able to house astronauts for extended periods.
The base will have drones stationed on the outskirts. These will, among other things, serve as clear boundaries for other countries' spacecraft to the Moon, says NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman.
Astronauts completed a trip around the Moon this spring under the name Artemis II. In 2028, NASA hopes Artemis IV will be able to land on the Moon.
