Japan's Naomi Osaka was in great form against Sabalenka, winning the match in straight sets, 6–2, 7–6. In the first set, Osaka played mostly flawless tennis and took the set in half an hour. In the second set, both players held serve throughout and the set had to be decided in a tiebreak. There, the 14th-ranked Japanese player was superior and won comfortably, 7–2.
"My first victory on Centre Court, it was fun," Osaka said.
On Saturday, both world number two Jelena Rybakina and third-ranked Iga Swiatek were eliminated. The highest-ranked player left in the tournament is now American world number four Jessica Pegula. Osaka is in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon for the first time in six attempts.
