A man who was wrongly identified as one of the shooters in the Sydney terror attack has received a series of death threats, Australian media reports. "I'm terrified," he says.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the names of the shooters, which have been released by several media outlets. However, the names have been shared thousands of times on social media – including with a picture depicting a completely different man in Sydney.

In a film on X, the man named says that although his name is the same as one of the shooters' alleged names - he has nothing whatsoever to do with the crime.

"I'm terrified. I can't go out, it's like a life-threatening situation, so I don't want to risk anything. My family is also worried," the man told AFP.

According to police, one of the shooters, a 50-year-old man, died in the attack. Another, a 24-year-old man, was seriously injured and is being treated in hospital.
