Alvar Myhlback is in Olympic form. He beat the field in the opening sprint race of the Ski Classics cross-country skiing cup.

The 19-year-old ski star won the sprint race in Bedrichov, Czech Republic, by a large margin of 1.15 seconds over Norwegian Amund Riege.

It felt good all day and I know that this sprint suits me well, Myhlback told SVT.

It was not unexpected that Myhlback was the fastest among the cross-country skiers in the sprint competition. He has won the race before, when it was not part of the Ski Classics, and the Swede came third in a World Cup sprint in December.

Both the World Cup sprint in Trondheim and the Olympic sprint are decided in classic style, which is Myhlback's strength because he excels as a long-distance skier.

"It's double-poling that is my strength even before the Olympics," he said.
