The military attacks on targets in the state of Rakhine took place on the night of Tuesday, according to witnesses who the news agency AFP has spoken to.

The attack on the town of Mrauk U has so far claimed at least twelve lives, whose remains have been placed in fine clothes and shrouds on the town square while waiting for burial, says Maung Than Chay. Three of his grandchildren were killed in the attack.

The civil wars, with several fronts, have been continuously escalated since a military junta took power in a coup in 2021.

In the state of Rakhine in the western part of the country, the military controls only three of 17 central towns, while the rest are held by regime-critical militant groups, such as the Arakan Army (AA).

The military regime's forces are trying to isolate the region – with famine for the residents as a result in several besieged areas.

According to UN agencies, the famine has increased dramatically, as agriculture has been paralyzed and hyperinflation prevails. In addition, previous support from, among other things, the USA has stopped coming.

I have no food, nowhere to live, no pots to cook in, no money to shop with, said Maung Than Chay to AFP.
