In February, Zecira Musovic announced that she was pregnant and thus taking a break from football. Chelsea now announce that the 28-year-old wants to "start a new chapter in her career" when her current contract expires after the season.
"We have created many memories together and I have grown so much as a person during my time at Chelsea. That's why it's hard to leave, but it's also why I feel secure about starting something new", says Musovic to the club's website.
What becomes the next step in the goalkeeper's career is not known.
"We are sad to see Zecira go, but understand the reasons for her decision. We wish her all the best with her pregnancy and in her future football career", says Paul Green, head of the women's department at Chelsea.
Musovic came to Chelsea from Rosengård in January 2021 and has been involved in winning five consecutive league titles. At the end of April, the London club secured the season's league title – the sixth in a row.
The Swede has also won the FA Cup three times and the League Cup twice with Chelsea. She has kept goal for Chelsea in 52 matches and kept a clean sheet 27 times, according to the club.
