Tech billionaire Musk has worked to significantly reduce the US federal budget, and said last week that he was disappointed with the disputed budget proposal, which according to calculations will significantly increase the country's national debt.
But the words to the TV channel CBS were nothing compared to Tuesday's outburst on Musk's own platform X.
"I'm sorry, but I can't take it anymore. This massive, scandalous, pork-filled budget proposal in Congress is an abomination", he writes and continues:
"Those who voted for it should be ashamed, you know you did wrong. You know it".
Undermining Doge
The House of Representatives has voted through the Trump-backed bill, which both increases government spending and includes extensive tax cuts – which means that the proposal, according to the Congressional Budget Office, would increase the national debt by 3.8 trillion dollars.
Musk told CBS that the proposal "undermines everything Doge does", referring to the White House initiative led by Musk.
A bill can be big and it can be beautiful, but I don't think it can be both at the same time, he said then.
The White House: Changes Nothing
The White House defended on Tuesday Trump's large tax cuts and spending posts, including on the military and border patrol.
The President already knows where Elon Musk stands, it doesn't change his own opinion. This is a big and beautiful law, and he stands by it, says Trump's press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Donald Trump himself is fighting to get the Senate to vote through the proposal. Several conservative Republicans oppose an increased national debt and the President has used both the whip and the carrot to get his party friends to vote yes.
On Tuesday, he attacked senators who are not on board, including on his platform Truth Social – all to be able to write the law in time for Independence Day on July 4.
